Scary Slaters

The reason I chose slaters was because my name is slater and because I want to learn more about slaters. Our task was to write an imormation report about an insect from the frankley school bush.
Scary Slaters

Slaters are also called Woodlice , Roly Polys and Pill bugs.  Slaters are many sizes.

Appearance
Pillbug_bw.GIFSlater are many different sizes. They roll into a ball to be camouflaged and also make them look like a chunk of dirt to protect themselves from predators. Slaters grow up to 2cm long and live for up to four years.  Their colour is usually in the shades of grey, from dark to light,  often mottled with green and yellow.

Diet
Slaters eat dead leaves sometimes eat seedling and root vegetables slaters take advantage to fallen fruit that other bugs have bit or birds have attacked.

Habitat
Slaters live around dirt, rotten logs,under rocks, piles of leaves and pot plants Slaters are scavengers and feed on decaying matter such as rotten wood and plants.

Did you know that Slaters are not actually insects?  They are crustaceans and therefore are related to lobsters and crabs. They use gills to breathe however will drown if submerged in water.
